Geely Auto and HANDAL Forge Strategic Partnership to Strengthen Indonesia's Automotive Industry

Jakarta, 22 January 2025 – Geely Auto, a leading global provider of mobility technology, proudly announces a strategic partnership with PT HANDAL Indonesia Motor. This collaboration marks a significant step in Geely’s efforts to enhance local manufacturing capabilities and contribute to the development of Indonesia’s automotive industry.
The partnership centers on HANDAL’s newly established Phase 2 plant in Bekasi. With this new plant, starting by 2025 Q3, customers can get locally assembled EX5 in Indonesia. This collaboration aligns with Geely’s vision of bringing cutting-edge technology and advanced assembly techniques to local operations while driving improvements in Indonesia’s manufacturing standards and automotive supply chain.
"Geely will enter the Indonesian market with pure electric models while leveraging our multi-brand product matrix that spans various categories and price points. Over the next three years, we plan to introduce 5-7 models, including SUVs, MPVs, BEVs, PHEVs, and ICE vehicles, to cater to the diverse needs of the market segments," stated Victor Gao, Managing Director of Geely Auto Indonesia.
Enhancing Local Expertise
Through this agreement, Geely will introduce the latest battery technologies and advanced assembly methods while fostering knowledge exchange between Indonesian and Chinese teams. The partnership also supports the development of a robust power battery supply chain in Indonesia, aligning with the nation’s goals for industrial growth and innovation.
Commitment to Localization
In line with Indonesia’s Domestic Component Level (TKDN) standards, the partnership will focus on enhancing localization efforts. Initial production will feature the Geely EX5 model, with plans to expand manufacturing to Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), and Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) models, ensuring a diverse product portfolio to meet Indonesia’s evolving market demands.

This collaboration underscores Geely’s long-term strategy in Indonesia. While the Bekasi facility currently operates with impressive capacity, future plans include expanding production lines to meet increasing demand.
